A new group of young sewers has named itself
Sticking to It. It started with one girl’s interest at Rally Day two
years ago. Sara Larghe signed up with the adult group Peace and
Stitch, but found that the group met during her class hours. This
year she came to the Peace and Stitch booth again, and again
declared her interest in the group. It was then that this new group
was developed. Melissa Vann leads this group along with help from
others in Peace and Stitch on the third Saturday of the month to
mentor the young ladies who come to learn to do hand ‐sewing, use
sewing machines, and make quilts.
The girls have made heart pillows to donate to the
nursing homes, chatelaines, and a hand‐quilted angel doll for
Christmas. The activities have helped the girls in their quest to
earn Girl Scout badges as well. The girls in the group include: Sara
Larghe, Rianna Robles, Misty Horton, Beth Horton, Emma Kyme, Ariel
Hendricks, Caitlin Meskill, Liv Campbell, Faith Kim, Jade Jones,
Alyssa Tinsley, and Lindsay Thompson. Adult helpers include: Jane
Robles, Sue Kyme, and Linda Meskill. Peace and Stitch assistants
are: Melissa Vann, Joyce Horton, Judy Easterby, Jan Saik, and Kate
Hubener.
The group meets the third Saturday of the month from
10:00 a.m.‐noon in Room 211 of the Mission Center. The group would
appreciate the donation of working sewing machines. For more
information contact Melissa Vann at 281‐358‐3602.
