Good Shepherd School
Overview

Incorporation and Charter (included in Parish Handbook):
o
School was
founded in 1985 and incorporated in 2002.
o
School and
MDO have 30 staff members.
o
MDO has 74
children for age range from 12 months to 2 years.
o
School has
202 children for age range from 3 through Kindergarten.
o
School is
entity of the Church – Church sponsors the school as part of articles of
incorporation.
o
12 members
on the Board of Directors plus the Rector. “60% or more of the Board
shall be enrolled communicants in good standing of the Sponsor”, i.e.,
the Church.

Rector’s
practice has been to assign 2 or 3 Vestry members as Directors of the
Board.

Vestry
approves School Board membership

Director
of the School reports to the Rector.

MDO
Director reports to Director of School.
·
School is
certified by the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools.

School
maintains separate budget and financial control system.
·
School
Operations
o
School
utilizes the Church facilities on a regular planned basis with class
rooms in the Education and
Mission Center
buildings and other facilities as needed such as the Sanctuary, parish
hall, etc.
o
School
pays an annual fee for use of Church facilities and staff.
o
Church
provides facilities, janitorial services, and general support to the
school as necessary.
o
Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) between the parish and Good Shepherd School was
approved by the Vestry on
May 20, 2008 and ratified by the School Board on
March 27, 2008; a copy of this MOU is included in this Parish
Handbook.
