MISSION STATEMENT

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is a ministry for the spread of Christ’s Kingdom among men and youth in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. Our Brotherhood pin reminds us of what we are about in life as Brothers Andrew. The outer circle of gold symbolizes Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and reminds us of our Discipline of Prayer. The dark blue field is symbolic of our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and our Discipline of Study of the Holy Scriptures. The white cross symbolizes Andrew, who led his brother to Christ, and our Discipline of Service in bringing others to Christ.

 BACKGROUND

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is an international ministry of men within the Anglican Communion. It has as its sole purpose "the spread of Christ’s Kingdom among men and boys" through the disciplines of prayer, study, and service.

The Brothers Andrew follow the example of St. Andrew who, when he learned Jesus was the Christ, brought his brother to meet him.

The Brotherhood is needed to counteract the continuing phenomenon that the vast majority of men on parish roles do not attend church or participate in the life of the parish. We know that where men are able to come together with other men to share in discussions of their Christian Faith and to study the Bible, they become more active in and supportive of the parish ministry.

Since its inception in Chicago, Illinois, in 1883, the Brotherhood has begun many successful ministries both in the USA and abroad, including Faith Alive! and the program of daily meditations that is now known as "Forward Day by Day."

Any baptized Christian man (at least 18 years of age) may be a member of The Brotherhood of St. Andrew. However, officers at the Chapter, regional, or national level must be men who are confirmed in an Anglican or Episcopal Church or a church in communion with the Anglican or Episcopal Church. Dues are currently $30 per year.

Good Shepherd’s Chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew grew out of interest expressed by several men at Rally Day II in February, 1996, following Good Shepherd’s Faith Alive! Weekend. The first organizational meeting was held in March of that year. When the Charter was received in September, 1996, there were eleven Charter Members and one associate member. There are now thirteen members and one associate member.

 MEETINGS & ACTIVITIES

The Good Shepherd Chapter meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:45 PM at the church. Our meetings consist of fellowship, Bible or other book study, and prayer time. Our outreach projects have included supporting the Diocesan Youth Camp, preparing breakfast at Lord of the Streets mission in Houston, and assisting parish families in need. We also have periodic social events.

We view the Brotherhood as a forum for men to meet and discuss personal spiritual issues and to help each other grow in faith through prayer, study, and service. We look forward to continued mutual growth. We welcome men of all ages to join us at our meetings. For more information, please contact one of the following Chapter officers:
